Is Clarithromycin Effective For Bacterial Vaginosis?
I have a history of getting bacterial vaginosis. I am currently recovering from a breast reduction surgery and unable to drive. My primary care physician and my OBGYN doctor won t prescribe me any medicine without being seen. So rifling through my medicine cabinets I found a prescription for a UTI that I discontinued using for another prescription, Clarithromycin. Can I use this to treat my BV or use something over the counter? Any suggestions? I need help.
I would recommend using a full course of whichever medication would be best. If you have sufficient number of pills for clarithromycin we can go ahead with that.
But before that, let me point out that if your doctor decided to discontinue clarithromycin while he/she was treating you for a UTI the reason is most probably because you must have been resistant to it. If so, then the clarithromycin will not help you at all.
Try getting your hands on some nitrofurantoin if possible and write back to me or see if you can get the previous urine culture report that was conducted and write to me using our premium service wherein you can attach the report and I can advise you accordingly on which medications will work and which will not.
Best wishes.
