Is Ciprofloxacin The Right Medicine For Kidney Infection?

I have just been prescribed Ciprofloxacin for a kidney infection. The patient information sheet says it can affect the heart rhythm. I have a pacemaker. Since my doctor is not on call today, I went to an urgent care clinic so they do not have my records but do have a list of my medications. Is it safe for me to take this drug?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Ciprofloxacin is a first choice drug to treat urinary infection so it is a good alternative. Its effects on heart rhythm are really rare, in less than one percent of cases and recommendations contraindicate its use in certain types of arrhythmias only for intravenous form.
So since I assume you have been prescribed an oral form I think you should be safe.

I hope to have been of help.
