Is Chlorthalidone Effective In The Treatment Of Hypertension?

I am taking one tablet daily of 50 MG Chlorthalidone and one tablet of 10 MG bystolic for my hypertension. It does not lower my systolic below 160, but lowers diastolic t0 59.I am 84 years old. Is this regimen good for me. Or would you recommend something better for hypertension. THANK YOU DOC!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As you are using diuretic, it will decrease only your diastolic blood pressure. Also with age, normal range of blood pressure is increasing and more upper reading. So, you don't worry.

If you have addition comorbid I will add another antihypertensive otherwise, it's okay.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ruby
