Is Ceftin Advisable For A Patient With Gout?

I currently am taking medications for gout. My doctor also prescribed Ceftin so I don t develop an infection. I just checked the side effects and it includes joint pain and swelling. That is what I have with the gout. Should I discontinue the antibiotic?

Though Ceftin is known to cause joint pain and swelling, not all patients experience these side effects. Also the severity and mechanism of action are different from that of Gout.
I would recommend taking the drug and consulting your doctor about changing the drug only if you experience these side effects.

Hope this answers your question. Thank you.
