Is Cefpodoxime Advisable For Fever, Headaches And Weakness?

Hi! I am a 63- year old Indian male. While I was travelling on business inside India last evening, I developed high-grade fever without any other perceptible symptoms but for a dull headache and a feeling of weakness. I have been on Paracetamol 650 since last evening - once every 6 hours- but am worried because I will be required to travel by train and by air over the next few days as well with little access to specialist medical help. I happen to carry a strip of Cefpdexone 200 Mg tablets with me and was wondering if I could start on them so as to prevent further problems. I have moderate hypertension for which I am under regular medication and am otherwise healthy. I will be grateful if you can please help me out here. Thanks!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of fever, headaches and weakness which is due to bacterial infection leading to strep throat and its leftover infection leading to Eustachian tube dysfunction. Viral infection can also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. You should take Diphenhydramine and Dextromethorphan for 4-5 days. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day. Take ibuprofen one tablet twice daily. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Usually viral infection go by its own without any treatment , if condition doesn't get well then consult general physician .Throat lozenges one every 4 hours is helpful. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day as it can provide relief. You should take you take antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present.
