Is C. Diff A Contagious Infection?

I work in a nursing home and one of our residents has C Diff. I m in full PPE every time I m in contact with her and take standard precautions, but just recently I ve been experience mild stomach aches and cramping, and my bowel movements seem like they are a bit fleshy if that describes it.. Not sure if this could be the beginning of C Diff or what but it s ironic that it s just now happening after I ve been exposed to a resident with it. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thanks you for asking this question. I have undergone through your question. I understand your concern. Clostridium difficile is a bacterium that can infect the bowel and cause diarrhoea. C. difficile infections can sometimes cause serious bowel problems, but they can usually be treated with a course of antibiotics. C. difficile mostly affects people who have been treated with broad-spectrum antibiotic or several different antibiotics at the same time, or those taking long-term antibiotics , have had to stay in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital, are over 65 years old, have certain underlying conditions, including cancer or kidney disease, have a weakened immune system, which can be because of a condition such as diabetes or a side effect of a treatment such as chemotherapy or steroid medication, have had surgery on their digestive system.
