Is Benzonatate Effective In The Treatment Of Cough And Wheezing?

I went to my doctor who prescribed clarithromycin and prednisone for sinusitus, fluid in left ear and for wheezing jn my chest. My question is that I have a deep cough that keeps me awake most of the night. Would taking benzonatate 200 mg be helpful.

Hello,

Wheezing is present hence it seems to be acute bronchitis condition. Your work-up done as follows:
• CBC
• Chest x-ray
• Auscultation
• Spirometry, if needed

Steroid will relieve your inflammation and antibiotic will clear bacterial infection. No further drug is needed. If expectoration is much than Ambroxol syrup can be prescribed. Steam inhalation done 3 times a day. If no improvement than sputum examination is needed.
