Is Amoxicillin The Right Medicine For Vomiting And Fever In A Child?

My daughter is 7 years old. She was vomiting Monday and had a high fever on Tuesday. She did not eat anything Monday or Tuesday. She has been on amoxicillin since Tuesday morning and ate Cheerios and some Chicken soup yesterday (Wednesday). Today she threw up after every meal and fell asleep at 6pm. She did not have a fever today. She has been on amoxicillin in the past. Could that be causing the vomiting even though she was fine Tues and Wed?

It could be the amoxicillin causing the vomiting. It's not clear to me why se was put on it in the first place. If her only symptoms were fever and vomiting, that is not necessarily an infection that needs antibiotics. If the doctor found an infected ear or throat, then it would be reasonable. In any case, antibiotics can have side effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc, so it's very possible it's from that. Talk to your doctor- depending on what the antibiotics were prescribed for, your daughter may need to be put on another type. Hope this helps.
