Inserted Plate And Screws To Fix Deformed Ankle For Fractured Fibula. Discolored Toes, Itching. Reason ?

Hi,
I fractured my fibula about a month ago, had sugery 2 weeks ago. My surgeon said that my ankle was displaced and so inserted a plate and skrews to fix the deformity. I am on non weight bearing instructions and had my stitches removed yesterday. It itches like crazy now and there is discolouration in my toes, meaning that there might be an obstruction in capillary action, also I experience extreme pins and needles sensations. The pain I would rate 4/10 so it is not really a concern for me, this is my first overall surgery in my life and im 18, so I am worried about getting back to university.
What I am worried about is the extremely weird feeling in my foot, it's like it's there (my foot) but it isn't. I am able to move my toes but have loss of feeling. I dont want to go to the hospital if it's not an emgergency. My orthopaedic surgeon is has not yet gotten back to me yet, this is why I seek help here.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Certain amount of itching is common in a healing wound which can be taken as normal.

Discolouration in the toes is not a good sign and always suggests a vascular compromise proximally. To establish this, you need to undergo a Doppler ultrasound of your involved leg.

Even pins and needles can also be taken as normal if they are transient. But if they are persisting and are continuous, it indicates a nerve injury or compression for which a nerve conduction study is mandatory to know the cause.

I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
