Infant With Diarrhea. Could This Be Due To The Dairy Products?
My 7 week old, breastfed little girl has had diarrhea now for 18 days. I had taken her to the children s emerg after 5 days, they told me to cut dairy out of my diet and she will probably be fine in 24 hrs. Yesterday I took her back. They did blood work which all came back fine. We are now waiting for the stool sample to come back. I just don t know what could be causing this.
How many stool does your baby pass per day?
Is there any blood in the stool?
Are the stools watery and large in quantity?
Does she have any fever?
Does the baby cry while passing stool?
It is normal for a exclusively breast fed baby to pass small quantity stool for up to 8 to 10 times in a day and such scenarios do not require any investigations etc.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
It is normal for breast fed baby to pass 5 to 7 motions a day and is due to gastrocolic reflex.
Monitor her activity, urine output, feeding pattern.,any fever, any blood or mucus in stools.
If everything is normal you need not to worry.
You should avoid gas forming food items in your diet and decrease dairy products for few days.
