Infant With Cough And Cold, Loose Motions, Frequent Watery Green Stools, Only On Breast Feeds. What Could Be The Reason?

Hi doctor, my 5 month old daughter has been suffering from cold and cough since last 1 week. She also started having loose motions since then, which is watery and green in color. She is passing stool 7-8 times a day. She is breasfed. What could be the reason? Should we worry? Its 1 week now since she is having this problem. Note: For cold we have been giving her Wicoryl.

Dear Prachi,

You can safely assume that the whole problem is viral in nature. Give your child ORS solution like electral powder in water, and continue with Wikoryl for her cold. Use Crocin whenever needed for fever. Consult her pediatrician once to check her weight. Keep giving her breastfeeds. Don't worry, she will soon be all right. Look out for danger signals ... like high fever, reduced urine output, vomiting and not taking feeds, blood in stools or any other problem that is new ... if so, stop taking internet advice and go immediately to a pediatrician.
