Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi

Your kid is having Gastroenteritis- which is most commonly viral in this age group. Always see your Pediatrician before you start any medications.

Enflor sachet is a probiotic which can be given for loose stools. It reduces the frequency and duration of loose stools.

You may give zinc once diarrhea is controlled for a period of 2 weeks.

However neither zinc nor the probiotics will control dehydration.
To prevent dehydration,
Give her plenty of fluids in the form of porridge (rice based), vegetable soups, plain water, ORS.
Give her plenty of curd that has probiotics naturally.
If she is on breast feeds, continue to feed.
Try to avoid formula/ cow`s milk/ fruit juices temporarily.

See to that she passes urine atleast adequately.

If at any time she becomes drowsy/ tired, if urine frequency is very less, she refuses to take orally, if she develops high grade fever, if you see blood in the stools, do not hesitate to see your doctor immediately.

Hope my answer helps you.
Wish a speedy recovery for your kid.

Pediatrician, Critical Care Dr. Tejas Shah's  Response
Thanks for posting your query here at Healthcaremagic.

She is suffering from Gastroenteritis. It is good to know that your daughter's vomiting has now been under control.

Diarrhoea takes a bit longer to subside.

Enflour sachets contain health bacteria - saccharomyces boulardii. They work as probiotics, which means they help to fight against nasty bacteria or viruses causing diarrhoea and vomiting.

•A probiotic produces microbial antagonism against bacteria e.g. E,coli, salmonella spp., shigella spp., and candida albicans.
•It stimulates the immune defenses, and as a result there is a protective effect against infections of bowel origin.

Zinc along with probiotics help in speedier recovery from diarrhoeal illnesses.

I hope I've been able to resolve your query.

Regards
