Infant Has Low Appetite, Rotten Mood, Excessive Crying. What Is Wrong?
Hi, my kid is 5 months old. last two days he starts crying in the evening around 6 and from then it continues for around 3 hrs. he started drinking less milk in the night too. he used to have 7 ounces at night time too but now he drinks only 4 ounces at night. morning and noon he is fine. from last one week he started shouting at the evening time and we thought he was trying to talk. from two days he started crying instead of shouting.
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
This is a classical presentation of evening colic, which presents with excessive crying and decreased oral intake at that time.
It is due to pain in abdomen, nothing to worry it subsides as age grows.
You can give drops like colic aid drops 15 minutes before feeding after the advise of your doctor.
Hold the baby tummy against you shoulder while crying and it will reduce the pain.
You can massage gently if baby cries with colic.
But if any associated vomitings, loose motions or abdominal distension consult your Pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query.
Hi there
Thanks for your query
Crying spells in a 5 month old can be caused by a variety of conditions. The possibilities include child discomfort, Hungry child, bloated stomach (called as colic), some ingredients in the child's formula like dha/ara, etc.
A detailed physical examination is needed to rule out these possibilities.
Switching to another brand of formula can help.

Infant Has Low Appetite, Rotten Mood, Excessive Crying. What Is Wrong?
hi thanks for writing to healthcaremagic i think your baby is having colic.........if he is other wise normal...........and feeding normally this occurs in this age group and more common between one month and 6 months and slowly subsides as the baby gets older burping after a feed can decrease the painful colic not to be worried if the baby is otherwise normal if there are no vomitings, baby accepts feeds normally, temperature is normal, gaining weight normally, no blood in the stool etc hope this helps take care
