Infant Has Fluctuating Fever, Severe During Evenings, Hands And Legs Cold During High Fever, Throat Is Red. Cause?

Hi doctors, my son is 15 months now and he s been having fever for 5 days. His fever is up and down, mostly high in the evening and during bedtime. Sometimes up to 39.8 degree C. However, his hands and feet are cold when his fever is high. No other symptoms. His throat is a bit red but lung is clear, no ear infections, etc... What s the cause and should I be more worried about his condition? Any advice? Thanks doctors.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi ,
Thank you for your query.
Your son seems to be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection.
If his throat is red and he is spiking fever then he might need an antibiotic like azithromycin for 5 days.
If the fever persists in spite of the antibiotics then you might need to do some tests.
If the child worries consult your specialist. If you have any further queries you are free to consult me.Hope this answers your query.Wishing your child a speedy recovery.Have a nice day

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Your son is having fever and throat congestion, symptoms of upper respiratory infection which is viral or bacterial in nature.
I suggest you to give paracetamol 6 hourly till fever is above 100F.give plenty of fluids, warm water will be soothing for throat,
In case symptoms persist i advise you to get him examined by a pediatrician as he may need a course of antibiotic.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless.
