Infant Had High Fever And Cough, Paracetmol Didn't Help To Cough. Ascoril Helped But Treated For Throat Infection
Hi Doctor,
My son is 18 months old & we live in UK...he started with high fever & cough...the cough was sort of ongoing..
i took him to GP but as usual didn't prescribe any medicine but asked to give paracetamol which I was already doing....The fever reuced after few days but cough was bothering him very much especially during night when we lay him down ...one of my friend gave me a bottle of Ascoril cough syrup & suggested to give him every night 2.5 ml and just after 3 days his cough has gone down so much & also he is sleeping better...i forgot to mention he is also being treated for throat infection with Penicillin antibiotics....My question is is it safe to give Ascoril when he is taking Penicillin & if it is safe for how many days should I continue to give ?

There is no problem giving cough syrup with antibiotic penicillin.
You may continue for 5-7 days.
Cough in children will remain for few days more after control of infection.
