If a woman takes Emergency Contraceptive Pill within 72 Hours of unprotected intercourse, it could prevent conception. She should take two pills with a gap of 12 hours between them. Her next menstrual cycle will be irregular following which normal cycles are established again. Emergency Contraception should only be used in an emergency. It should never be a substitute for regular contraception; excessive usage will lead to severe hormonal imbalances. Oral contraceptive pills are also used in some situations as a post coital pill, seek your doctor's advice before you take them as they have some adverse effects.
