IS Vicodin Sufficient To Treat Gouty Arthritis?

i have had my primary care doc for 20 years. i have very bad gout artritis. she will only give me vicodine and i have asked for stronger meds. i have never had pain pills before. i told her the vicodine were only working 2 hours not 6. i am in so much pain i can hardley take it and she just will not lisin. i have been to romatolgist and they said nothing they can do because the joints are too damaged. why will she not give me stronger meds. i have now requested a pain doctor. what should i do? H.F.H.S has all my records. i can not believe after 20 years with her she will not help.

Hi there.

Your gout seems to have reached quite an advanced stage.
Firstly. ..only vicodin will not help as you have to take medicines like zyloric or febustat to keep the uric acid levels below 6.
Avoid foods which are rich in proteins wnd eat more vegetables.

Short course of steroids under strict supervision will benefit you a lot.
I would advise you to immediately change your doctor to a one who will help relieve your pain better.
I hope my advice is of help.
Good luck.

As for the joint damage which has already been done. ....is irreversible.
For damaged hip and knee joints.....replacement of joint is the only cure to lead a pain free life.
I find this answer helpful
