I Was Bitten By A Dog, Should I Be Worried ?

Last Night I was bitten by a dog. I was wearing jeans at the time. The bite left the area swollen and sore and left a tooth mark (a break in the skin but no bleeding) This morning there is a bruise in a ring shape around the tooth mark. Should I be worried

First, clean and wash the wound gently with a quaternary soap like normal (regular) Lifebuoy soap and water fifty times.
Do not cover the wound as the rabies virus dies on contact with air.
Did the dog bite without provocation? Can that dog be identified and tied up for observation for ten days?
If you did not bleed from the wound, then it is a Class II bite. Please arrange for Post-exposure Rabies Vaccination. The new vaccines are given in a small dose intra-muscularly in the arm or thigh. Anti-Tetanus Vaccine may also be taken.
You may require a painkiller. Please consult your local physician.

Dear Friend,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.

Since there is bruise and no blood ooze, it can be treated as category II exposure.

For Category II bites, you need to take Anti Rabies Vaccination, Tetanus Prophylaxis

Avoid alcohol while continueing vaccination
