I Poked My Finger With A Rusty Nail. It Is Swollen And There Is Pain. Took Tetanus Vaccine. Swelling Is Persistent. Treatment?

I poked my finger on a rusty nail while breaking down my deck. There was a small amount of bleeding, but nothing significant. bleeding stopped within a minute or two. My finger is now swollen and there is pain if it is pressed. I am not able to bend it all the way due to the swelling. I am up to date on my tetanus vaccine. Is there anything I should be worried about or is the swelling simply a reaction to the puncture wound?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your finger seems infected with a secondary bacterial infection.

The wound has to be examined for the signs of infection and if there is pus developed, it should be drained.

The wound requires dressing with betadine followed by an antibacterial cream application.

Oral antibiotics may be required.

Don't neglect the wound and consult the doctor for further management as early as possible.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
