I Have Some Unusual Feelings After Having A Lasagna

I inhaled some lasagne - quite a big piece - I felt it slip right down because its soft, down the wrong pipe 2 days ago and I still feel as if there is something there. I didn t choke - it literally just slid down my throat and felt wrong. It s not painful just very uncomfortable and I can breathe fine. I went to see my doc and he looked down my throat and said he couldn t see anything but a scratch and to drink cold liquids. He listened to my chest and said I sounded fine. But I can t help but worry because this feeling isn t in my throat - its further down. I did throw up a few hours later when I tried to cough it up myself - but this feeling is still there - and probably feels worse.

Hi,

It is indeed difficult for the food material to go into your respiratory tract without causing you choking/cough/breathing difficulty. There are chances that it might have got struck in the oesophagus/has caused enough trauma in the food pipe to leave you in discomfort. It is better to get evaluated by a good ENT specialist rather than worrying.

I don't feel you have any throat problem, but the very incidence has made you obsessed that still there is something physically troubling you. I do not deny your feeling, but please talk to some clinical psychologist or Psychiatrist who may be benificial to you to get out of this obsessed thought.

Dear
food as such can not slip in to repiratory tract as even slightest droplet will cause choking and coughinig bouts. the food bolus caused some irritation which is giving discomfort. with time it will be normal.

See if you had swallowed some soft thing it might have dissolved and sometimes it happens that you feel it has entered in your respiratory tract but it is in your food pipe only,If it was in respiratory tract then you might feel difficulty in breathing and suffocation also.If something is stuck up in food pipe even when the thing is in the stomach then also the sensation of something in throat remains as you feel in case of eye the sensation of something in eye remain long after removal of foreign body from eye.

Anyways take plenty of water and if this symptom still persists after 24-48 hrs or if it is not improving and you face some problem like suffocation then consult ent and then gastroenterologist immediately .They may look up by endoscopy and check out for any foreign body and remove it by special instruments.

Hope this helps and removes all your doubts,
thanks,

dr jignesh
