My sister fixed her cholesterol
and lost 70 pounds in a year by staying away from white foods... ie bread, pasta, cookies, chips, etc. She ate mostly only foods "made by God" such as meat, vegetables, fruit and nuts. She gave up margarine and switched to butter.
She never went hungry, ever! She ate non-stop, just not junk. She did cheat every Saturday and ate whatever she wanted including dessert only for Saturday evening.
So have at on Saturday, but eat naturally through the week. Most importantly, DONT GO HUNGRY!
