I Have Had A Runny Nose And Nasal Congestion

I ve had a runny nose for over 3 months. I live in DFW in Tx. I tried all otc know to man almost only thing that really helped was levmetfetamine inhaler. but that is supposed to be used only 7 days. Finally went to a local doctor . about 3 weeks ago. they put me on medrol steriod tablets for 6 days. then flonase or nasonex inhaler 2 squirts a day..then took bactrim and just wrapping it up. it s better but still have drainage and a runny nose and have to blow my nose every couple of hours. Also stopped taking Flomax. as this is one of it s side effects according to studies. that seemed to help. I quit taking the Nasonex 5 days ago. how long before this subsides and is sinusitis or acute rhinitis ?

You may term this as a chronic rhinosinusitis since it's duration is over three months now. You should add anti allergic medications such as levo-cetrizine and montelukast. Add a mucolytic and undertake supportive treatment such as steam inhalation and humidification. Sometimes, the cause is an ARFS (Allergic Fungal Rhino Sinusitis).
Nasal steroid sprays take many days to begin action, so they must be used long term. If your symptoms still do not subside, do not hesitate to have a plain CT PNS (Para Nasal Sinuses) Scan. An MRI Scan may pick up fungal infections better. Also rule out an CSF Rhinorrhea.

Hi
The first thing is avoid exposure to pollens or dirt and cold atmosphere. Avoid all cold drinks and try to raise your immunity. steam inhalation will help in expectoration. Indian goose berry is good to increase immunity.
