Ayurveda Specialist Dr. Ashutosh Thigale's  Response
According to ayurveda, this problem occurs when difformity lies in big intestine,& in vatta dosha.Massage may remove the pain permanantly only if the said pathogenesis is not occured.Today there is strong faith in doing panchakarma & massage, true, Iam not against of it. It helps only in such condition when the pathogenesis i.e. " samprapti" matches with it. Your body needs a correct treatment.

Kerela ayurvedic massage is good and relaxing no doubt. But for chronic back pain first see a doctor I'd say.

I think so my father in-law goes to one such clinic. He has neck pain and doesn’t get much relief with pain killers and all. So one day someone told him and he went here. He says it is very good and recommends to all friends now.

When I was only a soph. in high school I had severe back pain. I was a very active athlete and my coaches told me that physical therapy and or going to the chiropractor would be the best solution. Although physical therapy helped a little, it wasn't enough. I went to the doctor and I had two stress fractures. I had to have surgery. Since your pain killers arent working, maybe you should get it checked out. Only you know how bad your pain is.

What all I know is 90% of back aches are cured by 3 days of complete bed rest and later start with mild exercises and some good pain killers. i hope this is right. The exercise and Do,s and Dont's are to be followed.

Heat applied to the painful area will provide relief. The heat can help relax the muscle and should be applied 20-30 minutes at a time. Ice and massage may also be helpful.

Kerala massage is definitely good if done by trained staff. I see 2 problems though. One is that everyone claims be a good masseur and get the whole massage experience becomes bad. Another problem is the cost. Indian kerala massage costs around Rs. 1000 or 25 USD. This lasts for 1 hour.Same massage in Thailand (Bangkok and Pattaya) costs around 125 Bahts or 3 USD. So there's a huge price gap. Moreover, I guess Abyangam (full body kerala massage) is not good for people with back pain alone. You shold tell the masseur to give obly back massage for 1 hour. And then you may want to try accupressure as I have seen very very good results with massage combined with accupressure.
