Balloon Sinuplasty is a new technique to treat Chronic Sinusitis by gently and firmly opening up the drainage pathways of the Para-Nasal Sinuses. It is a softer option than FESS (traditional functional endoscopic sinus surgery). However it is still major surgery as the balloon pressures are very high to remodel the bone. Chronic Sinusitis or Chronic Rhino-sinusitis is any infection or swelling of the sinus/s due to allergy or immune deficiency states not responding to medical therapy in-spite of six to eight weeks treatment. If your symptoms are purely allergic, a good nasal steroid spray along with anti-allergic tablets at night will help control your symptoms. Please remember that non-specific allergies such as to breeze, dust, use of hot / cold water, stepping onto a cold floor with bare feet, sudden changes in temperature, humidity and light can also be involved.
