As a registered nurse working with cardiac surgery
patients, I would recommend you go to the ER. It sounds like you may be experiencing angina
), that could be associated with a heart attack
. They will do a 12-lead EKG to determine if there is any abnormal rhythm suggesting damage to the heart. They will also do some lab work to determine if you have any signs of heart damage. Your heartbeat can be normal in the early stages of a heart attack. The last thing you need is for the heartbeat to become abnormal - that can indicate damage, often permanent if you are indeed having a heart attack. Please do not wait! Call an ambulance if you can not find someone to take you.
