Hypothyroid, Sweating Badly, Fatigued. Could This Be Related To Thyroid ?

I am a 57 yr old woman. I am hypo but recently I have been sweating so bad that it runs down my forehead. My job of 14 yrs. is nothing strenuous but I do have to work. I sweat so bad that I soak my clothes before I am at work an hour! In the evening I could be cleaning up in the kitchen after supper and sweat so bad that I look like I just got out of the shower! There has been exhaustion with it also where I wish I could take a nap ALL THE TIME. In 1994 a dr. told me that I had fatigue syndrome. He never did anything or give me anything. He is long gone and I have no faith in our family dr. I go 3 hours away to an internal medicine dr twice a year because I was not happy with what the family dr was doing with my thyroid. I have to go again soon. Could this be a thyroid problem? The sweating and exhaustion just came on recently. I am taking Cytomel and some supplements.

Hi, Welcome to HCM.

Based on the information you have given, it looks like your symptoms (excessive sweating, exhaustion) might be related to Cytomel. This drug is a potent form of thyroid hormone that stimulates sympathetic nervous system and can burn your energy stores causing exhaustion. It also innervates sweat glands, thus excessive sweating. I will advise that you consult your doctor and get the drug titrated based on your thyroid condition.

Hope this helps.
