Hyperextended Knee While Playing. Have MRI Results. Can Any Online Doctor Help?
I hyperextended my knee playing soccer. My initial x-rays were negative and the MRI that followed resulted the following: medial and lateral menisci are intact. Cruciate ligaments are intact. MCL is intact. Lateral collateral ligament complex is unremarkable. Extensor mechanism is intact. But the bad news was that the MRI also resulted the following: Focal impaction fractures involving the anterior lips of both the medial (1-2 mm)and lateral (5-6 mm) tibial plateaus. My doctor said knee brace and 4 weeks on crutches, but 3 weeks later I can walk virtually pain free. I am just using one crutch now, when will i know when I am completely healed from this injury? Going to Disney next week!
Based on my personal experience, I feel that focal impactionfractures of 5-6mm in depth involving the anterior lips of tibial plateau is not a significant injury (other soft tissues in the knee being intact and uninjured).
The clinical dictum is that, once there is no pain felt at the injured site during activities, you are considered to have attained the pre-injury status. So, in my opinion, you can perform all your activities but for sports for another 2-4 weeks.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
