Hurt ankle. Horrible pain with swelling, bruising. Need your suggestion.

On Friday I hurt my ankle. The pain was horrible that day with little swelling and bruising. The next day the bruising and swelling increased significantly. Since then the swelling comes and goes. The pain has mostly subsided, although it does still badly hurt if i move it a certain way. There is still a dark bruise though. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the query.

Your recent ankle trauma could cause hematoma, fracture or ankle sprain. A weak is long enough for minor traumas to stop causing pain. Otherwise, the trauma might cause some more serious damage and medical attention is required.
So if your ankle still hurts, you should visit your doctor, have simple X-ray of this area and orthopedist consult. If the injured area is swollen, skin is tense and tender when touching it, soft tissues ultrasound should be also done to rule out blood collection. Such collection can get infected and turn into an abscess. Moreover, such inflammation can lead to veins thrombosis.

So it seems that you have a reason to visit your doctor.

Hope this will help.
