How Well Would Pravastatin Control My Cholesterol?

I want to switch from Simvastatin to Pravastatin because I can't take Amlodipine with Simvastatin and I do not like the neck pain associated with Felodipine-nothing else works for my blood pressure control. I also take Zetia with the Simvastatin which I would like to stop altogether because of cost.
How well would Pravastatin control my cholesterol/HDL & LDL. Total C is 142 but HDL is at low end of good and LDL is also at low end of recommendation

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Pravastatin is a newer drug, compared to Simvastatin.

You can therefore, safely switch over to Pravastatin. Initially, take 10mg daily at bedtime; repeat your Lipid Profile after three months. The dose can then be re-adjusted, based on the latest Lipid Profile report.

As such, your Total Cholesterol, as well as, LDL levels are well-controlled.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
