How To Withdraw Nexium For Its Side Effects?

Hi .. My husband ( age 34) has been on nexium from past 2.5 years. He has been taking 40mg once everyday and is now very much dependent on it( if he skips it even for a single day then he has severe burning sensation in his gut. We had done an endoscopy last year(no significant findings, no H.pylori) but another gp told us that he should have been off from nexium for atleast 3weeks before taking a test for H.pylori(which we didn know). Now my question- is there any way to get him back to normal without havin to take nexium(we feel that it only relieves the symptoms without actually addressing the cause of the problem). Nexium is also expensive to have as an everyday medication for an average income holder. Are there any diet recommendations to solving his problem? We are desperate to have a diagnosis to his condition rather than merely have a symptomatic relief.. Please help us..

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your husband of 34 age, on Nexium for the last 2.5 years - saves from burning sensation in his gut, endoscopy last year normal - some one told to be off Nexium before going for endoscopy - wants to know any way to be off Nexium - diet recommendations ...
Your detailed history is indicative of your husband sort of getting dependency as the gastritis and acidity related things are only in the upper abdomen and retro-sternal area and not on the whole abdomen .
I would advise you husband the following:
First of all to identify the foods and beverages that suit him the best and to continue only these.
Get a list of the foods and beverages and anything else that instigate or enhance his problems and to stop them altogether.
Soft bland diet.
Small frequent feeds.
Antacid every three hourly and to stop Nexium.
Trial with Ranitidine.
Or even a placebo therapy.
Early dinner and lying down after one and half hours after food.
This way Nexium be stopped and slowly withdraw all the medications.
Stop alcohol and tobacco in any forms.
Control of stress and anxiety.
