How To Withdraw From Escitalopram Slowly Without Any Side Effects?

My daughter has been taking 10 mg Escitalopram for about 2 years and she wants to stop taking it. She needed at a time in her life but now dose not need it anymore. I have been reading all kinds of horror stories on withdrawl, I know the tappering process is the way to go, I just need some positive feed back that she will be successful and the withdrawl symptoms wont last long!! I realy am upset that this drug is perscribed so frequently when it seems to be difficult to quit! I also read that a natural suppliment of tumeric can help, called bcm95. Can she take that to ease withdrawl?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Stopping antidepressant medicines can cause withdrawal symptoms. Stopping psychiatric medicines should be done only under the advice of a psychiatrist. First she has to be assessed to know if she needs the medicine or not. Then the dose has to be tapered down slowly over a period of at least 1 to 2 months. Withdrawal reactions can be severe if you stop the drug abruptly and can do more harm than good. Take care and have a nice day.
