How To Treat Type 2 Diabetes?

I have type 2 diabetes. Currently on tablets but thinking of taking insulin because my sugar level in the morniing is average of 11. My levels were 8 in june 2011. Does long term use of tablets damage your kidneys. What are the pros and conS of using insulin. Will I put on weight with insulin.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, the blood sugar levels you have mentioned are higher to normal. In diabetics, medication starts with lower doses and when the dose are set to control the diabetes, they are continued. with time when sugar levels are not under control with present medication, either dose should be increased or add new drugs, the final option will be insulin.

Long term usage of anti-diabetic drugs doesn't cause harm to kidneys.
Insulin is very effective in controlling sugar levels. you don't put on weight with insulin. Only problem is you need to inject it. You can discuss your views with treating doctor and go with proper medication as per his guidance.

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you.
