How To Treat The Fever In Urinary Tract Infection?

my husband is having urinary track infection. Last 5 days he is having fever with shivering at times. Has Nausea feeling, back pain, abdominal pain. His sonography did not show any stones,but enlargement in kidney was visible.in sonagrahy under impression Dr. has said:LEFT SIDED MILD HYDRONEPHROSIS IS?POST INFLAMATIOTORY??DUE TO RESENT PASSAGE OF CALCULUS. hIS KEDNEY FUNCTION TESTS SHOWED NORMAL.
PL.ADVISE. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE FEVER PERSISTING.aGE IS 63, WEIGHT 82 AND 5FEET 9 INCHES.

Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Persistent fever could be due to continuing urinary tract infection and non-response to treatment.
2. Culture and sensitivity test is important to identify the sensitive antibiotic for treatment.
3. Mild hydronephrosis is normal and not to be worried about. As there are no renal abscess, not to worry, as infection is limited to lower urinary tract.
4. Also, need to take plenty of water. Paracetamol for treatment of fever. Fluroquinolones can be started now, and later based on sensitivity, appropriate antibiotic can be added.
