How To Treat Severe Sun Burns On The Thigh And Shins?

I was out at the lake for a couple hours yesterday and forgot to put sunscreen on my legs resulting in sunburn on my thigh and shins... my legs are very red and they have little red dots especially on my shins and I m worried that it might be something serious. The sunburn hurts very badly and I tried to put loose pants on to shield any sun that might additionally hurt my skin because any amount of sunlight burns my legs, but even wearing pants hurt because it touches my legs.... HELP! What are the red dots and why does this sunburn specifically hurt so badly! I ve never had severe sunburn, let alone these little red bumps.

Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
Acute sun burns are sometimes frightening but nothing to worry as its pretty easy to manage.
Generally, I advise short course of prednisolone along with local application of mometasone cream and soothing calamine lotion twice a day.
Antihistaminics and antioxidant tablets can additionally be added.
Use high SPF broad spectrum sunscreen everytime before going out in sun.
Cold sponging will definitely help.
Hope this will take care of your issue.
Wish you best of health.
Thank you
