How To Treat Severe Nasal Congestion Causing Difficulty To Breath?

I have dry nasal passages, sometimes with dried blood lining the inside of my nose. It makes me feel short of breath or like u am getting poor air quality. My nose alternates very quickly between being stuffy and runny. Sometimes it feels like both at the same time, if that is possible. Also I get very short of breath when climbing stairs. Sometimes feeling like I might pass out. I am not inactive , although I don't have a regular exercise schedule (working on doing that). I am 5' 2", female, 47 years old ( menopausal), and weigh about 135, so I am not that much overweight. What could be the cause of all of this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that dried blood in nostrils along with nose being stuffy and runny along with shortness of breath is most probably due to infection in the sinuses leading to Sinusitis and as the sinuses drains through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through nose..

Congestion in sinuses can also lead to nasal congestion and cause the symptoms you are experiencing..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
