How To Treat Scar Leaving Bumps Under The Facial Skin? I Suffer From Keratosis Pilaris On The Rest Of The Body.

Hello, for the last two years, I have been getting little bumps under the skin all across my face. I have keratosis pilaris on other parts of my body, my whole life, but never on my face. I've always great facial skin, with maybe a break out every so often. My face is now freaking out. I've tried lactic acid, glycolic acid, sulfur, salycic acid, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, jojoba oil, tea tree oil, grape seed oil, honey, microdermabrasion almost everything including retin a. Now also, as soon as these bumps come, they leave a dark spot/scar immediately on my face. I have had no luck with anything. They do not itch either. I'm wondering what the case may be?

Dermatologist 's  Response

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the problem dark spots with keratosis pilaris. Melanocytes are the color producing cells of skin which causes deep pigmentation on aforesaid areas after healing of pimples and formation of scars.

The most important part in treatment is by lightening agents such as Kojic acid or azelaic acid cream application which you can use under dermatological guidance. Hydroquinone can also be used but in my series of patients I prefer using Kojic acid or azelaic acid cream.

You should continue with sun protection by all measures. Eat healthy diet containing lot of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Do not try applying over the counter products as these can further aggravate the situation. Protect yourself form direct sunlight. Use a good sunscreen on exposed area for 2-3 times and drink plenty of liquids everyday.

All the best.
