How To Treat Ruptured Ear Drum Caused By Intake Of Amoxicillin?

My ear drum ruptured three weeks ago while I was taking amoxicillin for an ear infection which accompanied a mild cold. My doctor prescribed a stronger medication in the form of an ear drop which I took for two weeks. I have had no additional discharge but the fullness, tinnitis, hearing loss, and occasional pain and itching persist. Should I just wait for fluid in the ear to gradually be absorbed by my body?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have ruptured ear drum caused by intake of amoxicillin. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like otitis media , barotrauma , physical injury or acoustic trauma. Amoxicillin is not known to case ear drum rupture . I would suggest you to apply dry warm compresses externally and keep it dry while bathing . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may examine ear with otoscope along with imaging techniques . Doctor may prescribe other antibiotics along with anti inflammatory or may recommend tympanoplasty .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
