How To Treat Red And Circular Sores On The Top Of Foot?

I had three red circular sores on the top of my left foot that itched uncontrollably. I mean the kind of itching that drives you absolutely crazy. I think I must ve been scratching them with my other foot at night because I woke up and they were really red. couple of days ago 2 of sores felt like hard bumps now only one of them is bumpy. They have all turned dark maroon red but still continue to itch really bad. I have been using anti-itch cream and then covered in them with Band-Aids and while they are changing in color the itching is not going away. I have always had bad feet with extremely dry cracked blotchy skin but I have never had anything like this. I felt that perhaps they were really bad bug bites that maybe gotten Infected because i scratch them so when they first appeared, but now I m starting to get a little concerned because of the intense itching and discoloration

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The circular rash on foot appears to be either ringworm (caused by fungal infection) or eczema (caused by allergy or dryness of skin).
Both the conditions require an examination to come to a diagnosis and initiate treatment. Avoid scratching the area and use of any ointment for itching as it may contain steroids which can worsen the symptoms of fungal infection.
Apply soothing ointments like Aquaphor once a day for a week and antifungal ointment like Canesten twice a day for five days ( both the drugs are available over the counter) if symptoms does not subside or gets worse consult a dermatologist.
Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
