Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic.
Acne can relapse after seemingly complete cure.
Isotretinoin is the best available treatment for moderate to severe grade of acne and cures acne in about 60-70% of those who complete a course of Isotretinoin; however at least 30-40 % of patients relapse and some of these may require repeat courses of Isotretinoin.
The recommended total dose of Isotretinoin that is curative in most is 120-140 mg/kg.
Relapses are more frequent in those who don't take isotretinoin for the recommended duration Or don't complete the total recommended dose; also in those who have trunk involvement.
In addition to the oral retinoids,
oral antibiotics like
Azithromycin can also be prescribed for moderate to severe grade inflammatory acne.
Topical treatment is a useful adjunct to oral treatment and comprises Topical antibacterials like
clindamycin, nadifloxacin; Topical
benzoyl peroxide and Topical retinoids.
I would suggest that you seek an appointment with your
dermatologist for a discussion regarding the treatment options appropriate for the severity of your acne.
Your dermatologist after proper assessment might start you on a combination of oral antibiotics, oral retinoids and topical applications.
Your dermatologist might also suggest you to take a few sessions of
salicylic acid chemical peeling once every 2 weeks, for faster control of acne activity.
