How To Treat Pain And Tightness In Hand Caused After Injury?

Hit back of my hand against a hard surface, made a faint pop noise and immediate a circle just above my little finger knuckle began to swell. The size of the swollen lump was approx 1 inch long and had a slight purple tone to it. It was painful especially when making a fist. I took Nurofen and the swelling has reduced as has the colour, it still feels tender and very tight when making a fist. What could it have been that happened?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, It sounds like you bruised a tendon. It is usually tendons that make that popping sound when they get pushed out of place then pop back in. This can cause pain and swelling. If it is getting better then don't worry it will just take a while for the swelling and bruising to go down. If it remains very painful then you should see a doctor for an xray.
