Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a severe muscle cramp in one leg while sleeping about 4 months ago and then in both legs last night. It woke me up in the middle of the night and I had to hobble around for about 20 minutes trying to work them out of my inner thigh area by walkin.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. The reason why you could be experiencing the symptoms of muscle cramps is due to muscle spasms caused by calcium deficiency and electrolyte imbalance. Kindly take the following measures and see if you could get better: 1. Take one sachet of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) twice a day and you can continue it for about 4 to 5 days. 2. Take Calcium tablet for about two weeks to restore calcium levels. 3. Drink tender coconut, citrus fruit juices and plenty of fluids to keep yourself well hydrated. In case the symptoms persist and does not get better with the above measures, you would need a color Doppler study of blood vessels and you may have to consult Vascular Surgeon for further management in this regard. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
