Hello, i was diagnosed with keratoconus sine I was 12. Is was able to live with eyeglasses till the age of 21 and that's when i was fitted with rgp lenses.. After 4 years wearing such lenses I went for check up with an optholmologist yesterday who told me that I need to get rid of these lenses ASAP cause they caused deep corneal scarring in right eye and superficial scar in the left.. There hasn't been any vision change since I was fitted with these lenses 2001 till now.. My question is can I go and get fitted with clearkone me lenses instead of rgp and also what should I expect for these scars that I have?
There is general thinking that keratconus can be treated with lenses. There isnt yet consensus wich type of lens is the best. Doctors belive that the best type of lens is the on that fits you the best.
But these days new method for treating keratoconus is lunched to the ophthalmology world. It is a CXL ( corneal collagen cross linking ).It is beased on corneal collagen cross linking with ultra violet A and riboflavin. This method has been showen to arrest the progression of keratoconus.
And of course the last method of tretment is corneal transplant.
