Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a continual rash for 5 months in my groin area. I would normally call this jock itch. I use Lotramin cream as directed for 14 days. I then think I am good and then I work out or play golf and it comes back. I have now noticed that this rash is in the rectum area. I have not used anything in that area. I do have a Dr apt next week. I have never had a problem getting rid of this before. In fact I have had little problem in the last 20 years. What are your thoughts or directions that I may use? General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Jock itch is a fungal infection called tinea cruris. It is also called ring worm. It appears in red ring like pattern. If there is no such thing then it can be other fungal infection like candidiasis. Excessive sweating and low immunity state like diabetes can predisposes to fungal infections. Antifungal ointments like miconazole or terbinafine locally will be helpful for any of these fungal infection. But if recurring then oral fluconazole weekly once for 1 month will help. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
