How To Treat Itching, Flaking In My Hair?

I am 74 years old. I don t look or feel that old. About 3 years ago I developed an itching, flaking in my hair. The Dr. said it was hair psoriasis. He recommend several different shampoos, etc, and I used them all, a different kind each time. I still have that. What would you suggest I do to get rid of that.

Hi,

You said you have flakes on scalp. It may be either scalp psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. Both are chronic and relapsing disease. Both the diseases may be precipitated by stress and anxiety. You consult dermatologist to have firm diagnosis. If it is psoriasis, methotraxate in dose of 15 mg per week in three devided doses at 12 hours would be the choice of drug. That may be given for few months to years under observation. BLOOD TESTS Like LFT may be done at few intervals. Tar and salicylic acid containing shampoo would be helpful. Apply combined steroid and salicylic acid lotion at night. In seborrheic dermatitis, oral steroids in tappering dose, antihistaminics and local mild steroid lotion with ketoconazole shampoo would be the treatment. I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
