How To Treat Gum Pain Due To A Small Hole?

I have a small hole in my gums where my bottom front teeth meet my gums. It is quite painful. I've had this for four or five days. It almost looks as though I've cut my gums but the pain isn't subsiding and it doesn't seem to be healing. What could this be? YYYY@YYYY

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that either you have a GINGIVAL ABSCESS (GUM BOIL) or a PERIAPICAL ABSCESS(DENTAL ABSCESS)

It can also be a CANKER SORE but the chances of above two conditions is more possible.

A gum boil can happen due to injury to the gums by any food item or toothbrush bristle or any thing taken in mouth that accidentally injured the gums leading to carrying of infection and bacteria inside the gums causing infection and a gum boil.

Other reason can be if you have an infected tooth the infection can progress through the root canals below the root tips and cause pus formation leading to dental abscess as pus accumulates in the soft tissues.

One more reason can be a canker sore which can occur due to no specific reason also.

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get evaluated as the treatment will be based on diagnosis..

In case of gum boil scaling followed by antibioics, painkillers and topical application of gum paint will help.

In case of infected tooth root canal treatment along with antibiotics and painkillers is the treatment..

In case of canker sore application of steroid ointments, numbing gels and salt water rinses can be relieving.

Hope your query is solved..
