Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my 7-year old son is diagnosed with g-6-pd deficiency since birth. this past week he wakes up in the middle of the night and complains of leg pains specifically at his gastrocnemius. He becomes restless during sleep and wakes up at even the slightest movement. Is this something to be worried about? In daytime he goes on with his routines normally.
You are concerned about you 7 year old son who has G6PD deficiency. This is a metabolic error that is congenital and manifests with anemia associated with certain infections and medications. If your son is on any medication or has an infection then his symptoms may need to be treated by a doctor. If he is otherwise healthy then his symptoms are not related to the G6PD deficiency.
His symptoms do not sound like they are related to G6PD. It sounds like he is having sleep disturbance from anxiety or night terrors. These are common in this age and usually resolve on their own in due time. I recommend you make sure he is eating regular healthy meals and drinking plenty of fluids.
If his symptoms do not improve then I recommend he be seen by his doctor.
