How To Treat Excessive Bleeding On The Finger Tip Caused Due To An Injury?

Hi! I cut off a small part of the tip of my finger on a mandolin slicer a few hours ago . I wrapped it tightly then about 30 min later removed wrap and it immediately started bleeding again. It ha been wrapped ever since because I am really freaked out and I nearly passed out when unwrapped the first time. It is still extremely painful as well. Is there anything else I need to do or that I can do? Trying to avoid the ER if at all possible. I m terrified for anyone to remove the bandage again...

Hi,

I have been through your query and I understand your concern regarding the bleeding.

* Firstly, kindly confirm if the cut was clean and the slicer was not rusty or muddy, if yes then you need to take a booster dose of anti tetanus vaccine if not taken in past history of 6 months.

* Bleeding is common in that area since it is highly vascularised. Make sure you do not have familial diseases like hemophilia running in your family.

* Keep the bandage intact for few more hours, if it still bleeds through the bandage profusely then its certainly requires ER care. Otherwise you need not worry at all. Daily cleaning of wound with betadene and soframycin creme application is sufficient till it heals.

Contact a doctor if wound doesn't heal in 7 days or if bleeding continues.

Hope these suggestion help you. Contact for further follow up.

Thanks with best regards,
Dr. Suhas Chauhan
