How To Treat Ear Injury?

my son just called from college, he plays lacrosse and he got hit in the ear with a shot yesterday. he said his ear rung for awhile, and now his hearing is very muffled in that ear. the trainer has checked him and said he is ok and that hearing loss should be temporary. i am worried as he is six hours away, and keeps telling me he is fine.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son has got traumatic injury to the ear and as he experienced ringing in ear and as now the hearing is muffled it does not seems normal.and there is a possibility that he has got a traumatic injury to the eardrum and there might be perforation of eardrum..
I would suggest that he should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and get examined along with Otoscopic examination of ears..
In case if there is a small perforation in the eardrum the Physician can advise him antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller, Oral and nasal decongestant..
In case if the perforation is large surgical correction of eardrum known as Tympanoplasty can be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
