Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM

Depression post delivery is called postpartum depression. The symptoms usually begin with in 4 weeks of delivery. In majority of females symptoms like mild anxiety about motherhood, fear, mild suspiciousness etc are seen. Symptoms usually go with proper reassurance and with proper warm family support. In some severe cases symptoms like paranoid ideas against child, crying spells, suicidal ideation etc are seen. Symptoms can persist for long times and can aggravate risk of depression in future.

As you have symptoms like killing yourself. As per my opinion consult a Psychiatrist for treatment. Antidepressants like SSRIs, SNRIs etc are commonly used in depression. Low dose fluoxetine is safe to use even if you are breastfeeding a child.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
