How To Treat Broken Exposed Lips Due To Continuous Biting Of Lips?

I recently had a habit of biting my lips. After about two days i noticed in the shower the skin of my lips turn white and very soft if in contact with water. At first i continued exfoliating them and applying vaseline to protect the raw skin underneath. The next day i would wake up and there would be small pieces of skin growing back but would also go soft and white if water came into contact. Never had this issue before but now its very irritating. What should i do to get them back to normal? Should i continue exfoliating or letting them heal and letting the skin build up? How long will this take until they are back to normal?

Hello dear,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.

I have read your query and understood your concern.

Repeated Lip biting leads to weakening of the skin which then exfoliates and later the normal healthy skin reappears at the place within 7-14 days.

Vaseline or lip balms moisturize the part and help in early healing.

I will advice you to put vaseline/lip balm 3-4 times a day and do not peel off the skin by yourself. Let it exfoliate naturally and put repeated applications of moisturizer.

This is my best advice for you. You may discuss it with your doctor, i hope she/he will agree with my opinion.

Good luck.
